State Road (S.R.) 83 and S.R. 187 (U.S. 331) Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study from Coy Burgess Loop Road to the Alabama State Line, Walton County
Financial Project Identification Numbers: 433743-2-22-01 and 433743-3-22-01
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will hold a public information meeting concerning the northern section of the above-referenced project (for residents from the Liberty area to the Alabama state line) Thursday, January 18, 2018, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. CST at the Paxton Agricultural Center, 22036 U.S. 331 North, Paxton.
The meeting will be held in an open-house format. Maps, drawings, and other information regarding the improvements only in Paxton will be on display. FDOT representatives will be available to discuss the proposed improvements, answer questions, and receive comments.
Current and projected traffic forecasts indicate the level of service does not meet FDOT criteria to widen the roadway. Therefore, no capacity improvements are necessary at this time to accommodate the forecasted 2040 peak hour volumes from Coy Burgess Loop Road to the Alabama state line.
Operational and safety improvements are being evaluated. In Paxton, the recommendation is to install rectangular rapid flashing beacons and upgrade the school zone signage at the existing crosswalk.
A public hearing concerning the above-referenced project will be held Tuesday, January 30, 2018, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. CST at the DeFuniak Springs Community Center Main Auditorium, 361 North 10th Street, DeFuniak Springs. The hearing will begin as an open house at 5:30 p.m., with a formal presentation at 6 p.m., followed by a public comment period. During the informal portion of the hearing, FDOT representatives will be available to discuss the project, answer questions, and receive comments. Maps, drawings, and other information regarding the entire project limits will be on display.
Additional project information is available and can be viewed here. The handout will also be available at the meeting and hearing. Your comments are welcome and appreciated.
