The Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra will close the 2013-2014 season on April 12, 2014 with a “German Spring Celebration,” beginning with a performance of Robert Schumann’s “Spring” symphony, as well as Overture to the Beautiful Melusine, Mendelssohn’s musical depiction of the story of the Little Mermaid. The stage will be filled to capacity as the NFSO concludes the evening with Beethoven’s majestic Choral Fantasy, featuring virtuoso German pianist Alexander Krichel, the Northwest Florida Symphony Chorale and six guest vocal soloists.
Tickets to NFSO concerts are $22.50 each for adults, and $16 each for Active Duty Military and youth age 18 and younger. NFSO season packages are available for a discount over single ticket prices for $115 each for a package of the five regular season concerts. The NFSO performs in the mainstage theater at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center at Northwest Florida State College, where a custom orchestra shell ensures the finest in acoustics for symphony patrons. Immerse yourself in the refreshing sounds of classic vocals in a concert which features a repertoire ranging from the Renaissance madrigal to the contemporary gospel spiritual and vocal jazz. The members of both vocal ensembles are all scholarship students of the college’s Fine and Performing Arts Division. The Madrigals perform under the direction of Allison Everitt and the Belle Voci performs under the direction of Lois Van Dam; both who are NWFSC voice professors.

| The Performing Arts Division Honors recital is held at the end of each semester to showcase the most successful Northwest Florida State College student performances of the semester. Participants are voted on by NWFSC Fine Arts faculty. The Spring Recital is at 3:00 p.m. on April 25 in the Tyler Recital Hall of the music wing at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center on the college’s Niceville campus. | Apr 25 - Apr 26 DANCE FACETS 2014 |
The stellar dance students at Northwest Florida State College present their annual dance concert, Dance Facets 2014 featuring original works and choreography, stunning talent and more at 7:30 p.m. on April 25 and 26 on the mainstage of the college’s Mattie Kelly Arts Center in Niceville.
Dancers will perform original dance presentations featuring: classical ballet, contemporary, and modern. Dance Facets will be enhanced by special lighting effects designed by NWFSC students and staff. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for youth, age 18 and younger. NWF State College students may obtain one free admission per ID, in person from the Box Office. Call the Mattie Kelly Arts Center Box Office at (850) 729-6000 or purchase online at www.mattiekellyartscenter.org. Box Office phone and in-person hours are 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and 90 minutes prior to each event.
All proceeds go to support the Frances Smith Herron Dance Endowment at NWFSC, a fund named in memory of the late Frances Herron, a college dance instructor who passed away in August 2006. The endowment funds dance scholarships, distinguished visiting artists and enhances Dance Facets productions.
The Mattie Kelly Arts Center is located on the Niceville campus of NWF State College at 100 College Boulevard and is easily accessible via Interstate 10, U.S. Highway 285 and Highway 85. There is a $2 per ticket Box Office processing fee. |

| Apr 30 Leadership Walton Class Project |
Each year, the Leadership Walton Class of the Walton Area Chamber of Commerce selects a community service project that focuses on isolating a need from an organization that does not have the capability to remedy that need. This year, the 2014 Leadership Walton Class has chosen to work with two community organizations to provide much needed renovations and critical updates to their facilities: the Walton County Arc, a community –based organization serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and the South Walton Senior Center.
The Arc project will focus a classroom and includes patching and painting the walls, replacing the old carpet, trim, installing base cabinets, and purchasing a wall mount television for the classroom wall. The South Walton Senior Center Project will include updating office furnishings, installing shelving for print material, providing patio furniture, and completing various smaller projects. In addition, an open house reception will be held at both locations to showcase the renovations and recognize these two valuable organizations.
The Leadership Walton Class of 2014 is seeking your help as we implement these projects and purchase the materials needed for completion and to support the two organizations.
Please consider making a donation in any amount to help contribute to this effort. I’m sure you agree, this is a worthy cause, and these facilities are much needed in our community.
