(Jan. 13, 2016) — Emerald Coast Theatre Company (ECTC), a not-for profit professional theater company, will be performing John Cariani’s popular romantic comedy, “Almost, Maine” every weekend in February.

The play will be held at The Market Shops, located at 9375 Emerald Coast

After "The People's Choice" honors are given, judges will award first, second and third place for the participant categories, and even a "Best Display". The awards ceremony will begin at approximately 4 p.m.

Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 week of event, $30 on event day and are now available for purchase online at SandestinGumboFestival.com. Tickets are also available for purchase at Graffiti & the Funky Blues Shack, Aloha Surf Company and the Sandestin Welcome Center's front desk.

The Village of Baytowne Wharf invites local businesses and restaurants to join in the fun by becoming a gumbo participant. Feb 20    Walton Education Foundation 2016 Apple Classic
5TH ANNUAL APPLE CLASSIC 5K & 10K READY TO RUN, WALK, EDUCATE

Race registration is open; Apple Classic runners will enjoy more streamlined courses; Seeking event sponsors

Walton County, Fla. - January 11, 2016 - Run, Walk, Educate with Walton Education Foundation at the 5th Annual Apple Classic 5K and 10K Run on Saturday, February 20, 2016 hosted in the Freeport community of Hammock Bay where students, educators, families, and more will run and walk for Walton County education.

"Walton Education Foundation is excited to celebrate the five year mark for our key fundraiser and we are thrilled to announce a better race course for runners and the addition of more post-race activities," states MH Carr, Executive Director for Walton Education Foundation (WEF). "This event certainly sets the pace for our organization and its ability to grant funds to teachers and schools for specialized projects."

The beautiful Hammock Bay neighborhood located in Freeport, Fla. has hosted the Apple Classic for five years and offers runners an open, well-maintained course. Both the 5K and 10K courses are open, considered fast and flat, and have received a number of improvements including: a new Start/Finish line located adjacent to the neighborhood's Town Center; a new 10K course; a new 5K turn and an overhaul of all post-race activities. The Town Center Lawn will host the race's new Start and Finish plus the Ceremony of Medals, Grayton Beer Garden for Racers, Apple Classic Raffle and children's activity area.

The 5K participants will run an out and back course, with a better turn offering an easy elevation for a faster pace or scenic view for avid walkers. The 10K has been completely updated with a better positioned Turn 1 at turn just south of Highway 20 and Turn 2 down Hammock Trail West. Both courses wind through the neighborhood offering scenic views and lots of community sideline support!

The Apple Classic Run directly impacts the planning and mini-grant program supported by the Foundation.

"Funds raised for the Walton Education Foundation through the Apple Classic Run are eligible to be matched by the State of Florida through the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations. The match significantly increases our grant opportunities to teachers as well as other programs supported by the WEF," states Carr.

In 2015, WEF awarded over $42,000 through 39 mini-grants to teacher applicants that directly benefited nearly 5,000 Walton County students. The Foundation also expanded its reach into 15 schools in Walton County including charter schools.

Sponsorships are available starting as low as $150, and provide a unique opportunity for Walton County businesses and schools to work together and promote creative learning within our Walton County school classrooms. To become
an Apple Classic sponsor, please contact info@waltonedfoundation.org .

"With 78% of our 2015 runners being Walton County residents, we invite community businesses and families to sponsor the event and see how WEF can really impact Walton County education," continues Carr. "Families as well as business are encouraged to sponsor the Apple Classic."

Online registration is open and entry fees are: $20 for students; $35 for 5K runners; and $40 for 10K runners. Teachers will receive $5 off their entry fee with use of special code. See your school for details.

Packet pickup will begin at 7 a.m. on race day and the shotgun start is at 9 a.m. The community is invited to pre-register online anytime. Prices will increase after February 1, 2016 so participants are encouraged to sign up early. All runners will receive a goodie bag which includes a 2016 Apple Classic t-shirt, items from our sponsors and an apple.

Osaka Japanese Hibachi Steakhouse & Sushi Bar has officially opened at Pier Park on Panama City Beach. In celebration of the restaurant’s third location, Osaka will host a Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening Celebration on February 24, 2016, beginning at 4:30 p.m. with a tri-ribbon cutting with the Bay County Chamber of Commerce, Panama City Beach Chamber of Commerce, and Walton Area Chamber of Commerce.

Guests are invited to enjoy complimentary food, drinks, and live music. Proceeds from the event will benefit Food4Kidz, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provide groceries and supplies—free of charge--to struggling families with children in the Panama City area. All guests are encouraged to bring peanut butter, jelly, angel hair pasta, spaghetti sauce and soups to stock the Food4Kidz pantry. The new Pier Park location is Osaka’s third location, owned by Destin residents, Michael and Annie Chou. The new Osaka is located on Panama City Beach Parkway, in front of the Pier Park Target complex. The restaurant features a beautiful Japanese entry garden, expansive bar area, 16 Hibachi tables and private dining options.  The 10,000 square foot restaurant accommodates 250 guests and generated approximately 40 new jobs for the Panama City Beach market.

“Osaka is my pride and joy,” said owner, Michael Chou.  “I started over 20 years ago in Tallahassee before expanding to Destin in 2003. The Panama City Beach market is booming, so we felt it was the perfect place to add a third location to the Osaka family.”

Osaka takes pride in the quality of their menu offerings, using only locally grown organic produce, fresh gulf seafood and the highest quality beef. Similar to the restaurant’s other locations, Osaka Panama City Beach offers hibachi and sushi daily for lunch and dinner.

Feb 28 - Mar 4    2016 United States Police Canine Association Spring Trials
Your assistance is needed to help make your community a safer place for your family and neighbors. One of the best tools in Law Enforcement is a highly trained and certified Police Dog Team. To ensure the quality of working Police Dog Teams, it is necessary for handlers and their dogs to certify annually to maintain their courtroom standing and integrity.
The United States Police Canine Association (USPCA) Spring Trials will be held February 28 to March 4, 2016 at the Howard Hill Soccer Complex in Niceville, Florida 32578. The public is invited to observe these police dogs in action as they in these events.
This Non-Profit event provides Law Enforcement agencies from all over the Southeast to participate and nationally certify their working dog teams as competent to perform their specialized assignment. This certification includes Obedience, Agility, Suspect Search, Article Search, and Criminal Apprehension. The certification trial is open to Narcotics, Patrol, Bomb Detection and Cadaver dogs.
This important process requires the collection of donations and advertisement sales. Monetary and Product Donations are needed to support the week’s events including food and beverage, trophies, raffle prizes, and payment of judges for the trials. This event normally hosts approximately 60 dog teams from the state of Florida and nearby teams from other states. Your donation is tax deductible.

A public exhibition is scheduled for March 03, 2016 at 7:00 pm to allow citizen participation and education, as well as, to demonstrate the capabilities of these teams. The exhibition is a high energy, entertaining, and informative session held at Joe Etheridge Stadium in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.  A program booklet is being constructed for the exhibition event and advertisement space is being sold at a very nominal rate. The event is expected to attract approximately 400 spectators and will be advertised by local media services prior to the event.

These Police dog trials bring together the best trained Police dogs in the region and are judged by USPCA Certified Judges.  Great strides in the standardization of training methods have been made through these dog trials. Please help with this important and necessary Law Enforcement certification process we cannot succeed without you.
