The Sonder Project
- Organizations - Human Services
The Sonder Project is a locally-based nonprofit working internationally in some of the poorest countries in the world to help end extreme poverty through high-impact, sustainable solutions. Our goal has always been to raise awareness and empower people to break the cycle of extreme poverty by providing the stepping stones to multi-generational success.
In 2018 we will be working primarily in Burkina Faso, Africa where we have identified 6 villages that will receive aid this year. All 6 villages will have a water well with pump installed near the school. The well will be used to provide drinking water to students but also to water the school gardens that we will be installing for school lunch programs.
In 3 of these villages, we will also be installing water catchment basins equipped with a solar pump and irrigation lines to provide water for crops in an area feeling the effects of climate change.
In the other 3 villages, we will be training women in aquaponics practices and providing setups to get them started.
In both agricultural scenarios, women of the village will be trained in how to best work with their new setups, maintaining the system, budgeting, income generation and management.
