Okaloosa and Walton County Traffic Advisory
 
 
 
Chipley - Drivers will encounter traffic disruptions on the following state roads in Okaloosa and Walton counties as crews perform construction and maintenance activities.
 
Okaloosa County:
  • State Road (S.R.) 293 (Mid-Bay Bridge) Traffic Restrictions-
    • Weight restrictions remain in place on the Mid-Bay Bridge for only oversize and overweight vehicles more than 80,000 pounds (40 tons). 
    • Continuing through Labor Day, Lakeshore Drive and White Point Road will be closed to southbound traffic (towards S.R. 293 and the Mid-Bay Bridge) on Saturdays from noon to 6 p.m. The closures are intended to maintain safety through residential neighborhoods.
  • U.S. 98 Improvement from East Pass (Marler) Bridge to Airport Road-Crews continue median, turn lane, and driveway replacement between the East Pass (Marler) Bridge and Airport Road in Destin the week of Sunday, Aug. 18.  Intermittent east and westbound lane closures will be in effect from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. 
  • S.R. 397 (John Sims Parkway) over Toms Bayou Bridge Replacement Project- Crews continue road widening and bridge construction activities.  Traffic impacts for the week of Sunday, Aug. 18 include alternating and intermittent lane closures for north and southbound traffic. To help minimize traffic impacts, the following restrictions will be in place: 
    • Southbound (toward Eglin AFB) lane closures will not be allowed between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. Monday through Friday. 
    • Northbound (toward Niceville) lane closures will only be allowed between 6:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • S.R. 85 Northbound to Interstate 10 (I-10) Eastbound Ramp - Daytime shoulder closure on the eastbound I-10 on ramp Monday, Aug. 19 through Thursday, Aug. 22. 
Walton County:
  • U.S. 98 Widening from Emerald Bay Drive to Tang-O-Mar Drive- Crews continue road widening and drainage improvements.  Traffic impacts for the week of Sunday, Aug. 18 include:
    • Driveways and side streets on the south side of U.S. 98, between Emerald Bay Drive and Tang-O-Mar Drive, may be temporarily impacted by construction equipment crossing the roadway. Additionally, drivers may encounter uneven pavement in this area. 
    • Access to all businesses and side streets will remain open and traffic flaggers will be on-site to safely direct drivers through the work zone.
  • S.R. 20 Resurfacing from S.R. 81 to the Choctawhatchee River Bridge-There may be intermittent daytime lane restrictions at the Dismal Creek Bridge as crews adjust guardrail heights. 
  • U.S. 331 Turn Lane Construction in Defuniak Springs- There will be north and southbound lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Friday, Aug. 23 as crews construct a southbound, left turn lane for the Community South Credit Union. 
  • S.R. 20 Driveway Construction West of Freeport- The westbound roadway shoulder will be closed west of Freeport from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Friday, Aug. 23 for driveway construction and drainage work associated with The First Steps Learning Academy.   

 
All activities are weather dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to use caution, especially at night, when traveling in the work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
