Okaloosa and Walton County Traffic Advisory 

 
Chipley Drivers will encounter traffic disruptions on the following state roads in Okaloosa and Walton counties as crews perform construction and maintenance activities.
 
Okaloosa County
 
  • Mid-Bay Bridge Traffic Restrictions- The Mid-Bay Bridge remains limited to two-axle vehicles including cars, trucks, SUVs, school buses and limited EMS and first responder equipment only. Semi-trucks and commercial vehicles will be required to use alternate routes until permanent repairs to the Mid-Bay Bridge are complete. Variable message boards are placed on both ends of the bridge to alert drivers regarding the temporary restrictions
  • S.R. 397 (John Sims Parkway) Utility Work from Spencer Circle to Edge Avenue- The eastbound outside lane from Spencer Circle to Edge Avenue will be closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday from Monday, Feb. 4 through Thursday, Feb. 21 as crews upgrade power lines. 
  • S.R. 397 (John Sims Parkway) over Toms Bayou Bridge Replacement Project- There will be alternating and intermittent southbound lane restrictions, toward Eglin AFB, over Toms Bayou Bridge after 9 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11 through Friday, Feb. 15 to allow crews to install low profile barrier wall. Also beginning the week of Monday, Feb. 11, left turns will not be permitted at South Bayshore Drive and East and West Glen Avenues. The left turn restrictions and alternate routes are as follows:
    • South Bayshore Drive (south side of bridge)-No left turns will be allowed from John Sims Parkway southbound to South Bayshore Drive. Drivers will be detoured to Grandview Avenue, Vine Street, and then to South Bayshore Drive. In addition, no left turns will be allowed from South Bayshore Drive to John Sims Parkway southbound. Drivers will be detoured via Vine Street and Grandview Avenue.
    • East and West Glen Avenue (north side of bridge)-The median opening at East and West Glen Avenues will be closed to accommodate pedestrian traffic. No left turns will be allowed entering or exiting East and West Glen Avenues. John Sims Parkway southbound drivers will be detoured to Okaloosa Avenue, Bay Street, and then to East Glen Avenue. Northbound drivers will be detoured to Hillcrest Avenue, Spencer Drive, and then to West Glen Avenue. 
In addition, the sidewalk on the southbound bridge over Toms Bayou is closed. Pedestrians will be detoured to the northbound bridge while work continues to widen the southbound structure. High visibility crosswalks and pedestrian traffic signals will be installed on the south side of the bridge at South Bayshore Drive and on the north side at Glen Avenue. These sidewalk closure and left turn restrictions are expected to remain in place until the Toms Bayou Bridge improvement project nears completion in late 2020.
 
Walton County
  • U.S. 98 Widening from Emerald Bay Drive to Tang-O-Mar Drive- Road widening and drainage improvements continue. Traffic and pedestrian impacts include:
    • Intermittent east and westbound lane closures at the U.S. 98/Emerald Bay Drive intersection from 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. the week of Sunday, Feb. 10 as crews perform milling and asphalt operations.
    • Intermittent westbound outside lane closures between Emerald Bay Drive and Tang-O-Mar Drive from 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 10 through Thursday, Feb. 14 for shoulder work.
    • Driveways and side streets on the south side of U.S. 98 between Seascape Drive and Tang-O-Mar Drive may be temporarily impacted by construction equipment crossing the roadway between 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.  Monday, Feb. 11 through Friday, Feb. 22.  Additionally, drivers may encounter uneven pavement in this area. 
    • Access to all businesses and side streets will remain open and traffic flaggers will be on-site to safely direct drivers through the work zone.
  • S.R. 20 in Choctaw Beach Shoulder Closure- The shoulder will be closed at Eagle Creek from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday until Friday, March 15 as crews perform drainage repairs. 
  • S.R. 20 from Mohawk Drive to Satsuma Road in Choctaw Beach- The eastbound shoulder of S.R. 20 in Choctaw Beach will be closed from Mohawk Avenue to Satsuma Road from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, from Friday, Feb. 8 to Tuesday, March 5 as crews perform erosion control operations.
  • U.S. 98 from County Road (C.R.) 393 to Veteran’s Road- The westbound, outside lane will be closed between C.R. 393 and Veteran’s Road in Santa Rosa Beach from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12 through Friday, Feb. 15 as crews construct a new commercial driveway.   
  • U.S. 98 (Emerald Coast Parkway) in Sandestin Utility Work- The westbound shoulder of U.S. 98 will be closed from the Sacred Heart Hospital driveway to just west of the Courtyard Marriot in Sandestin from 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12 to 5 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13 for utility work.
 
All activities are weather dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to use caution, especially at night, when traveling in the work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
