SUMMARY:Florida Comprehensive Historic Preservation Plan Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Florida Department of State's Division of Historical Resources is sponsoring a series of regional meetings for residents to provide feedback on preservation-related activity around the state. Help us as we work together to maintain Florida's historical and archaeological resources. Staff will review the current plan and participants will help develop goals for the next five-year (2017-2021) planning cycle.\n\n\n\nInformation regarding this event may be obtained by contacting Cindy Permenter at the City of DeFuniak Springs City Hall\, by phone 850-892-8500 or email: cynthia@defuniaksprings.net.\n\nStatewide historic preservation planning is a responsibility carried out under the National Historic Preservation Act by State Historic Preservation Offices in the 50 states\, the District of Columbia\, American Samoa\, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands\, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico\, Guam\, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. All State Plans are approved by the National Park Service. \n\n\n\nIn Florida\, the Director of the Division of Historical Resources\, within the Florida Department of State\, is the designated State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO). State historic preservation law (See Chapter 267\, Florida Statutes) directs the Division of Historical Resources to cooperate with state and federal agencies\, local governments\, and private organizations and individuals to direct and conduct a comprehensive statewide survey of historic resources\, to maintain an inventory of such resources\, and to develop a statewide historic preservation plan. \n\n\n\nThe primary purpose of Florida's historic preservation plan is to provide guidance for the implementation of sound planning procedures for the location\, identification\, and protection of the state's archaeological and historic resources. The development and implementation of a comprehensive preservation plan should assist Florida's preservation organizations in their efforts to protect Florida's rapidly dwindling historic and archaeological resources. \n\n\n\nFlorida's 2012 2016 Comprehensive Historic Preservation Plan\, presented here\, identifies and discusses the major economic\, educational\, environmental\, political\, and social issues and trends facing the state both now and in the future.\n\n\n\nPlease help us by taking the survey below. Your participation is crucial and this survey should only take ten minutes of your time. Your input will be used in the next comprehensive plan cycle (2017-2021).\n\nhttps://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FL-Comp-Plan
