DeFuniak Springs Second Annual Pig Roast and Street Dance. The event is scheduled for Saturday April l6 from 4-8 p.m. at a private home located at 676 Circle Drive in the very heart of this historic community.
Due to its initial success, pig roast organizers are expanding activities and will kick off with a NAME THAT PIG CONTEST AND A DESIGN THE T-SHIRT CONTEST running from February l0-February 29. Winners will each receive a free ticket to the pig roast and a free T-shirt.. Winners will be selected by the Grit and Grace Board of Directors and the announced March 4th. A number of new activities will be added to the event this year and will include performances by Bruce Collier and Cate Campbell. The site of the event was the original home of Miss Flora Douglass McLean who occupied the home from l900 til her death in l985.She will be portrayed by Grit and Grace cast member ,Cate Campbell. Attendees will have an opportunity to meet and greet Flora Douglass,as she was lovingly known, and hear directly from her a few tidbits of an interesting life in DeFuniak and recollections of a time gone by.
A live band will be on hand preceded by Grit and Grace musicians who will also provide musical entertainment prior to the street dance which begins at 6:00 p.m. The street dance will include line dancing, led by instructor Rodney Ryals.
The home of “Flora Douglass” will be open for touring throughout the evening and will feature an art show by the Walton County Art League. A 50/50 raffle and silent auction are also featured
Back by popular demand will be golf cart tours of the historic district and antique car rides around the Circle.. The $40 ticket price is ALL INCLUSIVE except for raffle tickets and silent auction items. Also included is a free cartoon profile caricature by local cartoon artist Mark Douglass. Mark did the original sketch for the pig contest and also does the cartoons for the DeFuniak Herald. Tickets should be purchased early as only 200 will be sold and may be purchased at City Hall, Nook and Cranny, Southeby’s Antiques and Sanford and Sisters.
A private donor is picking up the cost of the event so ALL ticket sale monies will go directly to the City for restoration of the Chautauqua Hall of Brotherhood.
