Coastal Skin Surgery & Dermatology Offers Free Skin Cancer Screenings on Melanoma Monday As a way to raise awareness of melanoma and other types of skin cancer and to encourage early detection through self-exams, the American Academy of Dermatology designates the first Monday in May as Melanoma Monday. This year Melanoma Monday falls on May 5, 2014. Coastal Skin Surgery and Dermatology is supporting American Academy of Dermatology?s nationwide efforts to raise awareness of skin cancer by offering the community free skin cancer screenings in their Destin/Miramar Beach office located at 12469 Emerald Coast Parkway Miramar Beach, FL 32550 on Monday, May 5, 2014 from 1:00pm-4:00pm. Coastal Skin Surgery and Dermatology will be accepting walk-ins and people of all ages. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States and current estimates are that one in five Americans will be diagnosed with skin cancer in their lifetime. Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer and is the most common form of cancer for 25-29 year olds. In an effort to improve these numbers Coastal Skin Surgery and Dermatology encourages everyone to regularly perform self-exams and schedule yearly skin exams. Wearing orange on Monday May 5, and/or getting screened for skin cancer will help support the Academy of Dermatology?s vision of a world without skin cancer.
