PRO-BUSINESS EFFECT OF THE BP SETTLEMENT CLAIMS PROCESS 

In the $7.8 billion Oil Spill Settlement, BP agreed to pay businesses and nonprofits in the Gulf South - - including all those in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama (and the coast of Florida and Texas).  
This Settlement acknowledges BP’s responsibility for the harm it caused to the economy of the Gulf South - - and it will help jumpstart the economy that stalled over the spill.  
Evidence of BP’s intention, is that, under the Settlement a business or nonprofit does not have to demonstrate any direct relationship between a revenue decline in 2010, and the spill itself.  
This settlement is designed to help small and medium sized businesses, whose revenue declined in 2010 for almost any reason.  
This settlement is not for big insurance companies or oil and gas concerns.... it is for small to mid-sized businesses that are the engines of the economy, and for the nonprofits that serve as the backbone of services in the Gulf South.
