Seagrove Beach Real Estate Company hosting “Retire Old Glory” US Flag Drive
Seagrove Beach FL – Davis Properties of NW Florida, one of South Walton’s oldest real estate companies, is hosting a South Walton community out-reach project over the next several weeks. “Retire Old Glory” U.S. Flag Drive, is geared toward giving 30A locals a convenient means to properly dispose of their old, worn or tattered American flags.
“With Independence Day recently past, we thought that many folks might have purchased new American Flags to display for the Fourth of July holiday. But the dilemma is, once you have a new flag, what to do with the old one? With our centrally located office in Seagrove Beach, we thought a US flag drive might be a unique & useful way to serve the South Walton community.” Commented Larry Davis, Owner/Broker at Davis Properties.
According to USFlag.org, a site dedicated to proper use, display, treatment and disposal of the Flag of the United States indicates that; “When a flag is so worn it is no longer fit to serve as a symbol of our country, it should be destroyed by burning in a dignified manner.” Flag retirement ceremonies are commonly held by a local VFW, Veteran’s or Scout Troop organizations and are designed to insure proper and respectful disposal of the flags.
“At the end of “Retire Old Glory” Flag Drive, we’ll deliver all the flags we’ve collected to a Santa Rosa Beach Boy Scout Troop. The Scouts hold periodic retirement ceremonies as one of its many community service projects. The Troop will schedule a US Flag Retirement ceremony later this fall.” Said Davis.
“Retire Old Glory” US Flag Drive will run from Wednesday, July 23, 2019 through Friday, August 16, 2019. The first ten people to bring in their old flags can receive a new American Flag. Locals are welcome to drop off their worn, faded, or torn US Flags at The Davis Properties office located at 4130 E Hwy 30A in Seagrove Beach anytime between 9 am & 5pm Monday through Friday. The Davis Properties Sales Team is coordinating with Local Boy Scout Troop #562 in Santa Rosa Beach on the flag collection and disposal project.
