We are pleased to announce that Jim "The Rookie" Morris will serve as the special guest speaker for the Inaugural Steak & Stake fundraising dinner. Mr. Morris will deliver his inspirational speech on Thursday, September 25th which will be held at the Emerald Coast Convention Center on Okaloosa Island, Fort Walton Beach, FL. Mr. Morris' life story was the inspiration behind the 2002 Walt Disney film "The Rookie," starring Dennis Quaid. To motivate his rag-tag high school baseball team, the then-35-year-old schoolteacher made a bet that he would try out for the big leagues if his team won a district championship. When Mr. Morris' team won, he followed through on his promise, going to a tryout where he threw 12 consecutive pitches at 98 mph. Three months later, he achieved his dream of pitching in the Major Leagues. The Steak & Stake Dinner provides an opportunity for every guest, including donors, community partners and volunteers, to meet with and hear from the direct beneficiaries of their efforts - Boys & Girls Club Members. Youth sit at every table and are given the chance to share their story of how Boys & Girls Clubs of the Emerald Coast has had a positive impact on their lives and what the Club means to them. Also hear from our Youth of the Year, Joerell Kinion. As adults enjoy juicy, mouth-watering hamburgers, Boys & Girls Clubs Members will be treated to a special steak dinner. Take a Stake in your community and join the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Emerald Coast at their inaugural Steak & Stake Dinner.
