Host

The host’s basic function is to provide the guests, either on the phone or in
person, with information and support in a professional and gracious manner. The
essential hospitality standards must be used at all times: eye contact, smile,
speak first and engage in polite conversation with the guest.

Responsibilities:

Duties are as follows but are not limited to: 

  • Greet and interact with guests in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Provide fair and consistent seating for guests.
  • Receive and record reservations by phone or in person.
  • Maintain a waiting list of guests. It is the greeter’s responsibility to know what tables are available, who is covering each section, and how to seat guests alternately in each section.
  • Accurately handle the paperwork.
  • Receive incoming calls.
  • Check floor and tables for accuracy and cleanliness.
  • Assist in bussing tables as needed.
  • Maintain a clean podium. Wipe down menus at the end of each shift and
  • replace if damaged.
  • Stock Host/Hostess stand.
  • Perform other restaurant and customer service-related requests to guests.

Skills:

  •  High school diploma or equivalent.
  •  One year of restaurant experience.
  •  OpenTable experience is preferred.
  •  Good food and service knowledge.
  •  Pleasant personality.
  •  Excellent communication skills.
