HCA Florida Hospitals Join Community in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

Hospital colleagues, breast cancer survivors and community partners unite to raise awareness and celebrate hope

FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. (October 31, 2026) — Colleagues from HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital and HCA Florida Twin Cities Hospital joined breast cancer survivors, families and community supporters Saturday morning for the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk, demonstrating their shared commitment to raising awareness and supporting those impacted by breast cancer.

Among those participating were hospital colleagues and breast cancer survivors Anita Caban-Ruiz and Sandie Brosnan, whose presence served as a meaningful reminder of the importance of early detection, compassionate care and continued support throughout the cancer journey.

The event also brought together members of the local Bosom Buddies chapter, an organization dedicated to supporting individuals affected by breast cancer.

A special moment during the morning's activities included the presentation of a Breast Cancer Challenger Coin to Kellie Brock, Cancer Coordinator, by Dan Solow, local Bosom Buddies Chair, recognizing her dedication to supporting individuals and families navigating a breast cancer diagnosis.

"Events like Making Strides remind us that healthcare is about so much more than what happens inside the walls of our hospitals," said Emma Wegher, Chief Operating Officer of HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital. "Seeing our colleagues come together alongside survivors, including two of our very own, is a powerful reminder of why we do what we do. We are proud to stand with our community in celebrating survivors, supporting those still fighting and honoring the lives touched by breast cancer."

Through their participation, colleagues from both hospitals reinforced their commitment to community engagement, cancer awareness and compassionate support for patients and families throughout Northwest Florida.
