A Community Message from Mills Heating & Air
FORT WALTON BEACH, FL — October 12, 2026
When a storm rolls through our beautiful Emerald Coast, one thing we can always count on is our community coming together.
From first responders and utility crews working tirelessly to restore normalcy, to local businesses and neighbors lending a helping hand, we're reminded just how fortunate we are to call this place home.
Here at Mills Heating & Air, we're your neighbors first and HVAC experts second. We live here, work here, and care about the same families, businesses, and communities you do.
As everyone works to get things back to normal, we wanted to share a little friendly advice about something that can easily be overlooked after a storm: Is your air conditioning system safe to operate?
5 Things We Want Our Emerald Coast Neighbors to Know
1. Power's Back? Don't Rush!
Power outages and surges can damage your air conditioning system. If you notice strange noises, burning smells, or your AC isn't cooling properly, turn it off if it's safe to do so and have a qualified professional take a look.
2. Did Floodwater Reach Your AC?
Please don't turn it on, even after the water goes down! Floodwater can cause hidden electrical and mechanical damage. Have a qualified HVAC professional inspect your equipment before attempting to use it.
3. Take a Look Around Your Outdoor Unit
Once conditions are safe, check for fallen branches, debris, shifted equipment, or visible damage. If something doesn't look right, leave the equipment alone and contact a professional.
4. Don't Forget Your Air Filter!
Storm cleanup can stir up plenty of dust and debris. Once your system is safe to operate, check your air filter and replace it if needed. If your home experienced flooding, make sure moisture and possible contamination are addressed before operating your system.
5. Business Owners & Property Managers, This Includes You!
Commercial HVAC systems can experience storm damage, too. If you suspect flooding, electrical problems, or equipment damage, have a qualified professional inspect the system before restarting.
One More Friendly Reminder About Generator Power
If your home or business is running on generator power, please let your HVAC service provider know. Some systems require special electrical considerations, and service may need to wait until regular utility power is restored.
Our Community. Our Neighbors. Our Commitment.
At Mills Heating & Air, we believe taking care of our community means more than repairing and installing air conditioners. It means sharing what we know, looking out for one another, and helping our neighbors make safe, informed decisions.
Whether you choose Mills or another trusted HVAC company, your safety is what matters most.
We encourage our friends at the local Chambers of Commerce, fellow business owners, property managers, and community members to share this information with anyone who might need it.
You never know when a little helpful advice could prevent a dangerous situation.
To our first responders, utility crews, fellow trades professionals, and everyone working to help our communities recover, THANK YOU! We see you, we appreciate you, and we're grateful for everything you do.
We're proud to serve our neighbors throughout Fort Walton Beach, Destin, Niceville, Crestview, Navarre, Freeport, Scenic 30A, and the surrounding Okaloosa and Walton County communities.
It doesn't matter whose name is on the service truck. What matters is that our neighbors are safe and taken care of.
From our Mills family to yours, stay safe, Emerald Coast! ????
