Do you want to work in a fast paced environment with fun and creative people and make money while doing it? Come Down Island!! The back waiter position is a fun and active job where you bus tables, run food and assist the servers while helping the patrons. We have a lot of fun doing what we do and we take pride in the mood we set every evening as well as the food that comes out of the kitchen.
Down Island is currently open daily for lunch (11 am-3 pm), happy hour (3-5 pm), and dinner (5-9 pm Sun-Thurs, 5-10 pm Fri-Sat). We are closed on Mondays thru February 2025. We are also open on Sunday for brunch (10 am-3 pm).
Responsibilities:
- Provide excellent customer service to guests by delivering food orders promptly and accurately
- Assist with food plating as needed
- Collaborate with kitchen staff and servers to ensure smooth and efficient service
- Set up tables
- Clear tables and assist with bussing duties as necessary
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the dining area and workstations
- Follow food safety guidelines and ensure proper handling of food
Skills:
- Strong hospitality and guest service skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills to interact with guests, kitchen staff, and servers
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively

Down Island is one of our area’s few chef-owned and family-operated restaurants. It is the brainchild of Chef Brannon Janca (known endearingly to all as just Janca), co-founder of Stinky’s Fish Camp and former corporate chef/partner at Word of Mouth Restaurant Group. Down Island is the first of Chef Janca’s solo projects, combining his passion for modern-casual dining and Gulf South cuisine to create a fun, creative and inviting atmosphere for visitors and locals alike. The cuisine, level of service and overall culture of Down Island pays homage to the coastal life and southern hospitality he knows so well.
